The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Ibrahim Taha, praised United Nations decision designating fifteenth of March as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

He affirmed the belief of the OIC that designating this day as an international day would enhance awareness at the international level of the danger of hatred and intolerance against Muslims, and would encourage the international community to take concrete measures to combat this phenomenon and promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence across the world.

He pointed out that the OIC considers the adoption of this resolution by the UN General Assembly as a pivotal step towards to combat the threat of hatred, discrimination and violence based on religion.

Taha indicated the readiness of the OIC to cooperate with the UN and with all members of the international community, to promote unity and harmony in order to achieve international peace.
