Al Yanfaa Heritage Village in Tamniah Center, located 40 kilometers southwest of Abha, welcomes visitors daily from across Saudi Arabia and abroad as part of its summer tourism programs. The rainy weather has added a special charm to the village’s stone buildings and historic pathways.

The village squares are bustling with families and tourists enjoying traditional performances, cultural events, handicrafts, and local markets. Interactive experiences blend the authenticity of the site with the vibrancy of local heritage, all set against a mountainous landscape enhanced by rainfall and mild temperatures.

The village spans more than 121,000 square meters and features around 400 historic homes distributed across 16 neighborhoods, in addition to several multi-story palaces and six historic mosques. Its tightly clustered stone architecture reflects the mountainous environment and the needs of its early inhabitants.

Heritage features and integrated facilities

The village preserves a comprehensive water and agricultural system, including dozens of old wells—most notably seven adjacent wells carved into the rock—connected by a network of water channels that once supplied farms and homes. An ancient water passage, stretching 160 meters through the rocks, links one of the wells to the agricultural fields.

The village also contains about 50 rock-carved grain storage vaults, used to store crops after harvest. The “Bayt Al-Jama’a” (Community House) exemplifies social solidarity, where grains were collected and stored for times of need, to honor guests, and to assist those in need.

Al Yanfaa is distinguished by a network of old pathways known as “Shadakhat,” totaling about 36 routes that connect the various neighborhoods and ease movement throughout the village. The stone squares and pathways have undergone development, including new lighting, landscaping, and improved rainwater drainage, all while preserving the village’s heritage character.

A dynamic tourist destination

Al Yanfaa Heritage Village is one of Asir’s prominent heritage destinations, combining architectural, agricultural, cultural, and natural elements with events and programs that revive the site and connect it to contemporary tourism experiences.

The village’s activities continue until August 31 as part of a two-month summer program. More than 55,000 visitors are expected this season, reflecting the growing popularity of cultural and heritage tourism in the region and enhancing the status of Asir’s heritage villages on Saudi Arabia’s tourism map.
