North Korea has rejected US accusations of responsibility for a cyberattack that targeted digital assets worth an estimated $6.3 billion from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, called the accusation a "serious political provocation," according to a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday.

Kim Yo Jong added that the allegations were "another malicious attempt" by the United States to damage North Korea's reputation in the eyes of the public.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Saturday attributed the attack to North Korean hackers belonging to the "Trader Triter" group.

Blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs also linked the attack to the same group. According to the company, the attackers moved most of the $6.3 billion in assets within 20 minutes, apparently to prevent them from being frozen.

The scale of this theft far exceeds the previous record, which involved the theft of about $1.5 billion in digital assets from the Bybit cryptocurrency exchange in 2025, also attributed to the North Korean hacking group.
