Tropical storm Polo strengthens into hurricane off Mexico's Pacific coast

Tropical storm Polo has strengthened into a hurricane after gaining intensity in the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of Mexico.

Data showed that Polo's maximum sustained winds reached 80 miles per hour (129 km/h), with the storm located about 270 miles (435 kilometers) south-southeast of the Mexican city of Manzanillo.

The US National Hurricane Center in Miami reported that Polo could bring heavy rain, large waves, and tropical-storm-force winds to parts of Mexico from late Tuesday through early Wednesday.
