Political analyst Tarek Al-Shami says Trump is selecting targets in Tehran to show he does not seek a prolonged conflict in the region.
Key Takeaways
AIPolitical analyst Tarek Al-Shami said that US President Donald Trump is selecting certain targets for a military strike on Tehran to indicate there will not be a prolonged war in the region.
Speaking to Al Arabiya FM, Al-Shami added that Trump’s choice of specific targets is meant to demonstrate he does not want a lengthy conflict or one that would provoke Iranian retaliation. He noted that Trump has indicated that if Tehran does not respond to mediation efforts or to a letter sent by his deputy JD Vance to Mohsen Rezaee, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and continues to reject US proposals, the only remaining option would be to carry out an airstrike on the Jabal Al-Fas facility.
Al-Shami also said the strikes could include one or two other facilities suspected of nuclear activity, but the final decision rests with Trump. He questioned whether Trump would limit the operation to quick strikes lasting only a few days or even hours, as he has recently suggested, or whether he might yield to pressure from the Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation, members of the US Congress, and others in the Senate who are urging him to complete the mission and eliminate the Iranian regime.
