North Korea successfully tests new weapon under Kim Jong Un's supervision

North Korea successfully tested a new weapon on Sunday under the supervision of leader Kim Jong Un, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Tuesday.

According to the agency, Kim said the test conducted by North Korea's missile administration demonstrated "ultra-modern" defense technology and marked clear progress in modernizing the armed forces.

The report did not specify the type of weapon tested.

South Korea's military said on Sunday that North Korea had launched two short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast.

The test came just days after Pyongyang accused the United States of raising tensions on the Korean Peninsula through a series of military exercises.
