Iraqi court jails two members of extremist Qurban group

An Iraqi court has issued sentences against two individuals convicted of belonging to the extremist Qurban group.

According to the Central Criminal Court, the first defendant, described as holding extremist religious views, was convicted of inciting the second defendant to commit suicide. He was sentenced to six years in prison under the Law on the Prohibition of the Baath Party and Racist, Terrorist, and Takfiri Entities and Activities, the Iraqi News Agency reported.

The same court also sentenced the second defendant to one year in jail under the same law, with reference to provisions of the Penal Code.

The Qurban group is a secretive extremist religious organization that emerged in southern Iraqi provinces such as Dhi Qar (Nasiriyah). The group has attracted significant security attention and suspicion due to its dangerous activities.
