A rheumatology team at King Fahad Central Hospital in Jazan, part of the Jazan Health Cluster, has achieved a medical milestone by diagnosing and treating a rare case of eosinophilic fasciitis, also known as Shulman syndrome. This is a rare autoimmune inflammatory disease affecting the fascia, the fibrous membranes surrounding muscles and tissues, which can lead to skin thickening, stiffness, and restricted joint movement.

The patient visited the hospital with severe symptoms, including noticeable skin hardening, swelling of the limbs, and difficulty moving certain joints, which affected her ability to perform daily activities.

After a clinical assessment, the medical team suspected eosinophilic fasciitis and responded urgently by conducting specialized laboratory and immunological tests, as well as taking a biopsy from the affected skin and fascia. The results confirmed the diagnosis.
