Saudi weather authority urges accuracy in El Niño reporting

The National Center for Meteorology has observed the circulation of exaggerated and inaccurate information and interpretations about its report on the El Niño climate phenomenon across some news outlets and social media platforms. The center also noted the use of unscientific terms such as "burnout," which do not reflect the content of the report, whose main purpose is to clarify the stages and developments of the phenomenon according to approved climate models.

In a statement on its X platform account, the center said that taking information out of context and publishing inaccurate interpretations can distort the facts and raise doubts about the nature and impact of climate phenomena.

The center called on all media outlets and social media users to ensure accuracy, adhere to scientific terminology, and report information without exaggeration or misinterpretation. It also confirmed that the Climate Change Center will issue regular and transparent updates as soon as there are any developments regarding the El Niño phenomenon.
