Saudi Arabia pledges $6 million to UN counter-terrorism center

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced that the Kingdom will provide $6 million in financial support for the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre's programs. The announcement was made during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly's high-level week.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Saudi financial support will be distributed over four years starting from the 2027 fiscal year. This reflects the Kingdom's belief in the importance of a UN center that offers capacity-building programs across various counter-terrorism fields.

Saudi Arabia's support for the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre stems from its pivotal role in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, regardless of the perpetrators. The Kingdom recognizes the center's vital and constructive role in building national capacities and unifying global efforts in this field. The ongoing cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism includes the Kingdom's initial contribution of $110 million to establish the center, as well as a recent $300,000 grant to fund the Arab Counter-Terrorism Strategy project.
