Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley participated today in the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) in Nairobi, Kenya.

He highlighted Saudi Arabia's environmental initiatives that enhance resilience in addressing challenges.

Alfadley said Saudi Arabia takes a holistic approach to the environment, focusing on protecting the natural environment and preserving biodiversity.

He added that the country has implemented a suite of national legislation, strategies, and plans dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability such as the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiatives.

Alfadley emphasized that Saudi Arabia plays an essential role in initiating the Reducing Land Degradation and Enhancing Conservation of Terrestrial Habitats Initiative, showcasing its continuous commitment to global involvement. He also noted that to promote global action to conserve water resources, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, announced the establishment of the Global Water Organization.

"In tackling environmental issues, we will host regional and global environmental events, including the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16), and World Environment Day 2024," Alfadley said.

Alfadley urged discussions on climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution—key themes of the Nairobi session.

He emphasized the need for better coordination to explore solutions, achieve goals, and enhance integration, which are crucial for addressing environmental challenges and ensuring sustainability and societal well-being.
