The first edition of Tar Festival opened yesterday in Riyadh, organized by the Music Commission and running until August 23 at the Abu Bakr Salem Stage in Boulevard City.
Coinciding with the Esports World Cup, the festival offers a rich cultural and musical journey celebrating the tar, a percussion instrument that holds a central place in Saudi Arabia’s musical culture.
The opening night drew a remarkable turnout, with audiences reacting enthusiastically to the performances. Alongside the concerts, visitors can explore a dedicated marketplace area designed after the historic Souq Al-Hilla, where musical instruments are displayed and sold.
The festival also features live workshops where artisans craft the tar and other traditional instruments.
Tar Festival represents a significant step in highlighting Saudi Arabia’s musical identity.
By running parallel to the Esports World Cup, which draws global attention and visitors from across the world, the festival also enhances the visibility of Saudi music on the international stage.
