The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is marking International Vulture Awareness Day, observed annually on the first Saturday of September, to highlight the vital environmental role of these birds, which maintain healthy ecosystems by disposing of dead animal remains, helping reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics.

Globally, vulture populations are in decline due to multiple threats, including poisoning, habitat loss, and illegal killing. More than 100 organizations from 43 countries participate in the day to raise awareness about these dangers.

The Kingdom has made continuous efforts to protect vultures and other migratory birds.

These initiatives include installing insulators on power lines, monitoring hunting seasons, and conducting field studies through the National Center for Wildlife to ensure the sustainability of these species.
