The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques has revitalized Al-Madhfah Mosque in Billasmar, Aseer Region, preserving a 400-year-old landmark of the Sarawat Mountains.
Built in the 17th century (11th century AH) north of Abha, the 325-square-meter mosque is a testament to the region’s hospitality; it traditionally provided shelter for travelers, supported by the produce of 13 surrounding farms.
Constructed in the authentic Sarawat style using local stone and juniper wood, the mosque features a prayer hall, an open courtyard, and a guest room.
Its restoration by specialized Saudi engineers ensures that the mosque’s unique architectural identity, including its 4.70-meter rectangular minaret, remains a sustainable center for worship and a beacon of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage under Vision 2030.
