Jeddah First International Systemic Functional Linguistics Conference to Start on February 4

Jeddah First International Systemic Functional Linguistics Conference (J1st ISFLC) is to be held online from February 4 to 7, 2024, under the patronage of University of Jeddah President Dr. Adnan Al-Humaidan.

College of Languages and Translation Dean Dr. Nouf Al-Khatabi said that the conference, themed "Language and Multimedia”, will address the relationship between language, multimedia and multimodal communication in different social and cultural contexts.

The conference aims to advance linguistic research, play an effective role, to the benefit of the community, and contribute to fulfilling the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

It encompasses several key sub-themes, including semiotic and social characteristics of discourse, language and multimedia in social and mass media, and language and communication in audiovisual translation.

According to Al-Khatabi, researchers and experts from some 12 countries will participate in the conference. They will analyze the features of language and communication in different contexts and across cultures, and hold workshops, lectures and diverse scientific sessions, give scholarly interviews and make individual and group research presentations.

There will also be opportunities for discussion and exchange of ideas.
