GCC Secretary General Meets with UN Secretary General's Representative for Iraq

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi yesterday met at the GCC Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh with Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, UN Secretary General's Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

During the meeting, Albudaiwi praised the UNAMI efforts that support the Iraqi government and people in achieving peace, stability, and sustainable development, expressing hope that the mission would fulfill its mandate and resolve outstanding issues, particularly those involving Kuwait and Iraq.

He reiterated the positions and resolutions outlined in the 161st session of the GCC Ministerial Council, emphasizing the GCC's unwavering support for Iraq, including a commitment to Iraq's security and stability, the importance of preserving Iraq's territorial integrity, full sovereignty, Arab identity, social fabric, and national unity, as well as supporting Iraq's efforts against terrorist groups and armed militias to bolster state sovereignty and law enforcement.

The two sides also discussed cooperation between the GCC and UNAMI, reviewed the latest regional developments, and exchanged views on these issues.
