Rock in Trabzon becomes tourist hotspot after Mohamed Salah photo

A rock on Kurt Derei Plateau in the Turkish city of Trabzon has become a popular tourist attraction after Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah posted a photo of himself during a visit to the site.

Fans and visitors have flocked to the location to mimic Salah's pose and take similar photos, leading to a noticeable increase in visitor numbers, according to local media reports.

Turkish social media users have dubbed the rock "Salah Taşı," combining Salah's name with the Turkish word for rock, "taşı."

Photos and videos have gone viral showing visitors sitting on the rock in the same way as the player, creating a local phenomenon among his supporters.

Interest has spread to the surrounding area, with signs now referring to the "Salah Plateau," and searches for the location and directions have surged since it became associated with the Egyptian star.

The site rose to fame after Salah officially joined Turkish club Trabzonspor on August 6, 2026, in a free transfer following nine seasons with Liverpool.

Salah signed a two-year contract with the Turkish club, stating his ambition to take on a new challenge and compete for titles.

Salah scored 257 goals in 442 appearances for Liverpool, winning eight major trophies including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

The president of Trabzonspor said negotiations with Salah took only five or six days, marking the start of a new chapter in the Egyptian player's career both on and off the pitch.
