Erdogan pledges Turkish support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and reconstruction

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated his country’s support for Lebanon, announcing Ankara’s readiness to contribute to the reconstruction of southern Lebanon, strengthen the institutional capacities of the Lebanese state, and continue providing humanitarian and technical assistance.

Erdogan made his remarks during a joint press conference with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun following talks in Ankara, marking Aoun’s first visit to Turkey since taking office at the start of 2025.

The Turkish president stated that Turkey is keen to participate in all initiatives aimed at ensuring Lebanon’s sovereignty after the withdrawal of the current international force, referring to UNIFIL, and stressed that Ankara is closely monitoring diplomatic efforts to end Israeli aggression and occupation.

He also expressed Turkey’s willingness to provide all possible support for the reconstruction of southern Lebanon in the wake of Israeli attacks, affirming continued backing for Lebanese institutions and efforts to enhance their capacities.

For his part, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said his country is moving steadily toward restoring its sovereignty and rebuilding its institutions, stating: “Today, we are more determined to reclaim the sovereignty of our state, rebuild our nation, and secure a safe and stable future for all Lebanese.”

The discussions also addressed regional developments, particularly Israeli policies in the region, Israel’s occupation of areas in southern Lebanon, as well as the impact of the Iranian war and its implications for regional stability.
