Bahrain sentences three to prison for joining terrorist group

The Deputy Head of the Terror Crimes Prosecution in Bahrain announced that the High Criminal Court, in its session today, issued verdicts in two separate cases, convicting three defendants of joining a terrorist group and acting on its behalf by committing hostile and terrorist acts against the Kingdom of Bahrain and harming its interests. All defendants were sentenced to 15 years in prison, with two fined 2,000 dinars each, and confiscation of seized items ordered.

According to Bahrain News Agency on X, the cases date back to information confirmed by investigations by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence, which revealed that the defendants had joined a terrorist group plotting to undermine public order and endanger national security in Bahrain. Their activities included acts intended to harm individuals, spread fear, and prevent state institutions and authorities from carrying out their duties. The investigation also found that the defendants were assigned various terrorist tasks within Bahrain, including transferring and handling funds to support and finance members of the group.

The Bahraini Public Prosecution launched investigations immediately after receiving the reports, interrogated the defendants—who confessed to the charges—heard witness testimonies, and appointed technical experts to examine seized devices.

According to the agency, the investigations concluded that the defendants' actions as members of the terrorist group played a key role in carrying out terrorist operations in Bahrain, putting the country's security and stability at risk.

Based on the investigation findings, the Public Prosecution referred the defendants to the High Criminal Court, where both cases were considered separately over several sessions, ensuring all legal guarantees, including the presence of defense lawyers and the opportunity for the defendants to present their defense, before the court issued its verdicts today.

The Bahraini Public Prosecution affirmed its ongoing commitment to pursuing crimes linked to terrorist groups and taking necessary legal action against anyone proven to have joined, supported, or participated in their activities, to prevent threats to the kingdom's security and interests.
