Houthi leadership weak and chosen by tribal loyalty, analyst says
Military analyst Mohammed Al-Kamim says Houthi leaders are selected based on loyalty and tribal ties, not military competence.
Key Takeaways
AIMilitary analyst Mohammed Al-Kamim said Houthi leadership is weak and selected based on loyalty and tribal considerations.
Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, he added that the group appoints its leaders according to allegiance and obedience, rather than military capability that could influence the battlefield.
He continued that the militia relies on uneducated, simple fighters, while others are tasked with operating tanks, artillery, mortars, howitzers, and snipers. This means the group has a team functioning with some of the capabilities of a regular army but does not have the capability for drone or ballistic missile operations.
Al-Kamim noted that whenever the militia faces a shortage of fighters or leaders, it calls for a truce to buy time and restore its readiness. He said truces have always benefited the militia, which quickly seeks them whenever it encounters problems with its fighters.
