Fire breaks out on regasification and storage ships at Damietta port

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed that a fire broke out on both a regasification ship and a storage ship docked at Damietta port. The incident was immediately addressed according to approved emergency and rapid response plans by the relevant authorities and on-site firefighting and security teams.

In a statement, the ministry added that upon receiving the report, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi went to the scene to monitor the situation firsthand, ensure the ongoing containment and safety operations, and verify that all safety procedures were being followed in full coordination among the concerned agencies until the situation was safely resolved.

The ministry confirmed that the incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities. Emergency teams, in coordination with technical specialists, continue to complete necessary actions in line with approved standards, and further steps are being taken to assess the aftermath of the incident.

Reuters cited two security sources as saying that Egyptian gas storage tankers at Damietta port may have been targeted by drone attacks. Ambrey, a maritime security company, reported a drone strike on a US floating LNG storage facility in Damietta.
