UNIFIL dismantles 4 tons of explosive ammonium nitrate in Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has dismantled nearly four tons of highly explosive ammonium nitrate compounds in a Lebanese border town.

In a statement on Thursday, UNIFIL said its forces discovered 385 abandoned containers holding approximately 4,000 kilograms of explosive materials made from ammonium nitrate compounds during a routine inspection on July 2 near the town of Houla. After a thorough risk assessment, UNIFIL's explosive ordnance disposal specialists carried out field procedures to neutralize and secure the materials, eliminating the threat they posed.

The statement did not specify who owned the explosive materials or who was responsible for storing them.
