US denies Iranian claims of control over Strait of Hormuz

US Central Command on Wednesday dismissed claims by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy that it controls entry and exit to the Strait of Hormuz, which suggested that international navigation is now limited to routes set by the Guard.

The command clarified that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the international waterway remains open to maritime traffic despite threats and attacks by the Revolutionary Guard.

It added that commercial vessels continue to transit the strait with US military support, noting that American forces have assisted more than 900 ships in passing through since early May.
