Full reopening of Strait of Hormuz expected within hours

A senior source told Al Arabiya that an announcement on arrangements to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz is expected within the coming hours or by tomorrow, noting progress in ongoing talks to resume navigation through the waterway.

The source said that communications are "in full swing," confirming that an announcement on reopening the Strait is imminent, without providing further details.

These developments come as the United States expressed hope for reaching an agreement with Iran on Tuesday or Wednesday to reopen the Strait, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said in an interview with CNBC that Washington is holding talks with Tehran, adding: "We are in discussions with the Iranians, and I believe there is a chance to reach an agreement today or tomorrow to open the Strait and move toward greater normalization of the situation in this conflict."

Besant's remarks align with statements from US President Donald Trump, who said the waterway could be reopened on Tuesday, noting that "talks are now underway" with Iran and describing it as a "last chance" to reach a "good" agreement.

Meanwhile, Qatar confirmed that efforts to find a diplomatic solution between Washington and Tehran are ongoing, but clarified that no direct talks are scheduled between the two sides.
