Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has blamed the United States for the failure of the interim agreement with Tehran, urging a renewed attempt to finalize the deal as concerns mount over possible renewed US and Israeli strikes on Iran following the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3.

In remarks broadcast by Iranian state television on Saturday, Pezeshkian said: “We hold America responsible for the failure of the interim agreement, and I still believe we must move forward with it.” He added: “We were negotiating, but cowards ruined everything... I still believe we should proceed and reach this agreement.”

The interim agreement collapsed last June, just days after it was signed by both the US and Iran. Recently, there have been increasing reports of US and Israeli preparations for a new round of strikes against Iran.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced on Friday evening that the United States is “holding constructive talks with Iran,” stressing that the US “will not attack before the midterm elections” scheduled for November 3.
