Qatar warns against single-state control of waterways, urges regional solution

The spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that subjecting waterways to the sovereignty of a single state and using them as a weapon sets a dangerous precedent for all. He emphasized the need for a regional solution to ensure stability, along with international understanding to protect waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The spokesperson said Qatar has received assurances from US administration officials that Washington is keen to reach an agreement. He added that Qatari mediators are currently shuttling between various capitals in an effort to make progress on this front.

He noted that the Qatari mediation team is working with both Tehran and Washington to explore the possibility of resuming talks, adding that both sides have been exchanging ideas over the past two weeks regarding the resumption of negotiations with Iran.
