Russia has announced that attacks on its oil facilities have resumed after a temporary halt, with Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Alexander Novak stating that three oil refineries and a gas and chemical complex were targeted overnight. This development comes amid US pressure on Kyiv to stop targeting Russia's energy sector.

In an interview with Russian state television, Novak said: "We saw a pause for some time. Today, attacks on the refineries have resumed." He added: "There was an overnight attack on Russian oil processing facilities—specifically, three oil refineries and one gas and chemical complex."

There was no immediate comment from Ukraine regarding the Russian statements. However, videos posted by Russian channels on Telegram showed smoke rising from an oil refinery in Samara region following a nighttime drone strike.

The reported attacks come after a period of calm, at a time when US President Donald Trump has been pressuring Kyiv for weeks to halt strikes on Russian refineries, blaming the attacks for driving up diesel prices.

Earlier in October, Trump reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to ease sanctions on Moscow in exchange for Russia releasing diesel fuel to global markets. He later unexpectedly announced what he described as an "energy truce" between Russia and Ukraine.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was not aware of such a truce, and it remains unclear whether Kyiv is committed to halting attacks on Russian oil facilities.

Meanwhile, Russia continues to target Ukraine's energy infrastructure as part of the ongoing war between the two countries, now in its fifth year, which has seen repeated strikes on Ukrainian energy sites.
