Voter turnout in Russian Duma elections surpasses 45% ahead of polls closing

Russia’s Central Election Commission announced on Sunday that voter turnout in the State Duma elections reached 45% ahead of the closing of polling stations on the third and final day of voting.

Vadim Kovalev, head of the General Election Monitoring Authority in Moscow, said that around 6 million voters cast their ballots online, representing an 82% participation rate among those registered for electronic voting, which was available in 33 Russian federal entities.

Kovalev added that turnout in the State Duma elections in Moscow stood at 40.2%, with more than 2.8 million voters participating electronically over two days.

Election details and expected results

The ninth State Duma elections, held alongside other concurrent polls, began on September 18 and are scheduled to continue until this evening. The Central Election Commission plans to announce preliminary results within hours of the polls closing.
