Omani proposal for Strait of Hormuz includes voluntary payments for safe passage

Sources told CNN that Oman’s proposal for the Strait of Hormuz includes voluntary payments in exchange for ensuring maritime safety and environmental protection, following the rejection of mandatory Iranian fees on shipping traffic.

On Saturday, Iran’s Tasnim news agency quoted an informed source as saying the Strait of Hormuz would not be reopened under the Iranian-Omani understanding, revealing that Tehran and Muscat had agreed on new entry and exit routes for the strait.

According to the source, the entry route under the agreement lies entirely within Iranian territorial waters, while part of the exit route also falls within these waters.

The source confirmed that the southern route would remain closed despite US insistence on reopening it, adding that reopening the strait depends entirely on Washington meeting Tehran’s conditions.
