Key Takeaways
AIYemeni forces announced on Monday that they had carried out more than 1,122 precision strikes against Houthi militia positions and fortifications across multiple frontlines, as part of a wide-scale military operation to restore government control over Yemeni territory.
Yemeni military spokesperson Majed Al-Nazili said the operations targeted artillery and rocket launch sites, defensive fortifications, approach and supply routes, as well as command and control centers belonging to the Houthis.
Diverse operations and heavy losses
According to Al-Nazili, the strikes involved fighter jets, drones, artillery, rockets, and snipers, and focused on the Saada, Al-Jawf, Taiz, and coastal fronts. Field reports indicate that 1,747 Houthi fighters were killed and 364 military vehicles, equipment, and transport and supply assets were destroyed.
The spokesperson added that Yemeni armed forces would continue their mission until all state lands and institutions are reclaimed.
Background to the military operation
Yemeni President Rashad Al-Alimi announced on Sunday the launch of a large-scale military campaign to retake areas held by the Houthi militia, following a surge in Houthi attacks last month and their advance toward the Red Sea coast and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, a key shipping and oil transit route.
Armed clashes in Yemen have resumed since last July, after the collapse of a 2022 truce between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government, amid escalating regional tensions between Iran and the United States.
