AIPolitical analyst Aqil Al-Aqil said that “China’s involvement gives any political initiative international momentum due to its strategic relationship with Iran.”
Speaking in a phone interview with Al-Ikhbariya Radio, Al-Aqil added that “China intervenes for reasons related to Beijing’s own interests, particularly its strong ties with Iran, at a time when Western countries accuse China of providing Iran with satellite imagery that may have helped improve the accuracy of its strikes.”
He continued that “China is one of the countries that relies on oil and gas supplies from the Gulf region, and any closure of the Strait of Hormuz or threats to Bab Al-Mandab would impact those supplies.” He also pointed to China’s role in facilitating agreements between Iran and other regional countries.
Reports have indicated that China, in coordination with Pakistan, is leading efforts to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran and to create conditions for renewed dialogue amid rising regional tensions.
