Syrian authorities arrest former brigade commander over war crimes charges

Syrian internal security forces in Latakia have announced the arrest of Major General Jalal Kamel Saqr, former commander of the 18th Infantry Brigade in government forces, on charges of involvement in war crimes and arbitrary detention of civilians during the years of the uprising.

According to security officials, Saqr participated in military operations against civilians in Damascus province and Eastern Ghouta, and oversaw arbitrary arrest campaigns in Daraa province.

Authorities added that his detention is linked to his alleged involvement in these violations committed against civilians during the years of the uprising.
