Arab League condemns attack on ships at Damietta port, warns of regional escalation

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy strongly condemned the targeting of two ships at Egypt’s Damietta port on July 29, describing the incident—which, according to a statement from Egypt’s Cabinet, was caused by a drone—as an unacceptable and condemned act of aggression against Egyptian assets.

Fahmy warned against attempts by some parties to expand the ongoing regional conflict, stressing that any such moves would be reckless and ill-advised.

He reiterated that attacks on Arab countries are “completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that targeting Arab nations and their resources cannot be tolerated.

Fahmy also highlighted Egypt’s role since the start of the ongoing war in February, noting that the country has worked seriously and continuously to find a way out of the crisis and to encourage de-escalation among the parties involved.

He added that Egypt’s efforts aim to end attacks, safeguard the security and sovereignty of Arab states, and achieve security and stability for all.
