Libya closes airspace after private jet crash at Misrata airport

Libya has closed its airspace after a private jet crashed at Misrata International Airport, halting all flights at the airport after the aircraft veered off the runway and caught fire during landing, according to the German Press Agency (dpa).

The aircraft, a Cessna 650, was carrying a crew of three: the pilot, who is German, and both the co-pilot and a flight attendant, who are Turkish nationals.

Initial reports indicate the plane suffered an engine malfunction during its landing attempt, prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing before the aircraft left the runway.

No casualties have been reported, according to available information. Flight operations at the airport remain suspended pending necessary procedures, removal of the damaged aircraft, and an assessment of the runway's condition.
