Surge in doctor emigration from Israel as 1,370 leave in three years

A study by Tel Aviv University has revealed that around 1,370 doctors have left Israel over the past three years, amid concerns that the rising rate of emigration could impact the quality of healthcare and the training of new generations of doctors.

According to The Jerusalem Post, the number of departing doctors increased by 94% between 2023 and 2025, compared to a similar period from 2013 to 2015.

Data showed that 416 doctors left in 2023, with the number rising to 530 in 2024. Estimates suggest that 419 doctors are expected to leave in 2025.

The study noted that emigration was not limited to newly qualified doctors; experienced physicians accounted for at least 14% of those leaving.

Additionally, about 20% of the departing doctors were over the age of 45, raising concerns about the loss of medical expertise and its effect on training future doctors and maintaining healthcare standards.
