North Korea fires unidentified projectile toward east

South Korea's military has reported that North Korea launched an unidentified projectile toward the east, according to Yonhap news agency.

The launch comes as Seoul and Washington prepare to hold large-scale joint military exercises from August 17 to 27, aimed at countering Pyongyang's advanced nuclear and military capabilities.

Earlier this month, South Korea's military said North Korea had fired a short-range ballistic missile toward the sea.
