Twelve Arab and Islamic nations condemn Israeli airstrikes on Syria, urge global action

Twelve Arab and Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, have condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting the Abu al-Duhur military base in northwestern Syria, calling on the international community to take concrete steps to halt what they described as ongoing violations of Syrian sovereignty.

The condemnation came in a joint statement issued on Friday by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Somalia, and Algeria, following the strikes on the Syrian military facility.

The ministers described the attacks as a "dangerous escalation" and a "blatant violation" of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political unity of the Syrian Arab Republic. They expressed deep concern over the continued targeting and destruction of Syrian territory and infrastructure.

The statement stressed that these actions "directly threaten Syria's efforts to restore security, rebuild state institutions, and address the humanitarian consequences of years of prolonged conflict."

The foreign ministers warned of the consequences of ongoing Israeli violations inside Syrian territory, stating that "the continued violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity by the Israeli entity risks further escalation, undermines regional peace and stability, and erodes respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter."

The ministers called on the international community to "take a firm, clear, and principled stance" against what they described as ongoing aggression against Syria, urging concrete measures in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to put an end to these violations.

The statement also called for full respect of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas, to prevent further escalation and safeguard peace and stability in the region.

The signatory countries concluded by stressing the urgent need to respect Syria's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and political unity, affirming their rejection of any attempt to undermine these principles.
