Iran affairs researcher Islam Al-Mansi explained the reasons preventing an agreement between Iran and the United States.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Mansi said that a lack of trust between Washington and Tehran is hindering the possibility of reaching a constructive agreement based on swift and simultaneous concessions from both sides.

He added that Tehran insists on a fundamental demand for lifting the blockade and sanctions, and wants the United States to do so without offering real concessions in return, while the US seeks a comprehensive agreement that addresses the nuclear file.

Al-Mansi noted that Iran prefers a phased agreement, but the United States wants a deal that curbs Iran's nuclear program and ensures it remains non-military. He pointed out that an agreement could be possible if both sides make simultaneous concessions, such as lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports, reopening the Strait of Hormuz to navigation, and starting talks on Iran's nuclear issue.
