Nor'easter storm leaves 100,000 homes without power in US

A powerful Nor'easter storm swept across large parts of the US East Coast, causing major flight disruptions and widespread power outages, with its effects continuing to impact several states through Saturday.

The storm led to the cancellation of around 425 flights to and from US airports, while another 1,338 flights were delayed, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.

In the power sector, the website PowerOutage.com reported that more than 88,000 homes and businesses in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania remained without electricity as of 17:07 GMT, compared to over 119,000 customers affected earlier in the day.

In Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York, more than 25,000 customers were still without power shortly after 1 p.m. Eastern Time, including about 13,300 customers of PSEG Long Island.

The company said the storm brought down trees, branches, and power lines, adding that it had restored electricity to more than 34,600 customers affected since Friday morning.

The US National Weather Service warned that the Nor'easter's impacts would persist, forecasting coastal surges, rip currents, strong winds, and heavy rainfall in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions through Monday.

As the storm intensified, the governors of New York and New Jersey declared a state of emergency on Friday in counties expected to be hardest hit, including New York City, while the governor of Connecticut activated the state's emergency operations center.
