The commander of Iran’s Army Ground Forces, Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi, has revealed that reconnaissance missions have been conducted across the country to identify locations that hostile forces might use to land or enter Iranian territory, including abandoned airports. This comes as more than 50 combat and support units remain deployed along the borders since the outbreak of the recent war.

In an interview with Fars News Agency, republished by Iranian media on Saturday, Jahanshahi said these units remain in position and are prepared to respond to threats and carry out operations. He added that the army has assigned specific units to address potential sites that could be exploited by enemy forces.

According to Jahanshahi, the deployment stretches from the northwest to the west and southwest of the country, as well as from the east to the southeast and the Makran coast. The forces include mobile brigades, rapid reaction troops, armored and mechanized units, as well as artillery, engineering, missile, and drone divisions.

Jahanshahi explained that personnel, ammunition, and equipment were transported using heavy vehicles during nighttime movements conducted under the threat of hostile aircraft and drones. He stated that this deployment has helped deter any attempts to enter Iranian territory.

Operational plans and defensive fortifications

As part of its military preparations, Jahanshahi said the army has reviewed its operational plans, adjusted its structure and combat organization, and equipped units with precision and smart weapons capable of operating within interconnected networks, alongside enhanced personnel training.

He added that the army has constructed trenches, tunnels, firing positions, and defensive fortifications within camps to minimize casualties and reduce the exposure of equipment to attacks.

The ground forces commander stressed that units continue their missions despite challenging conditions, including temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius, high humidity, and some shortages in resources, emphasizing their readiness for operations.

Missile and drone attacks during the war

Jahanshahi said that during the war, the ground forces carried out missile strikes and launched thousands of Arash drones toward US bases in the region and Israel, according to his account.

He added that equipment production continued throughout the conflict and remains ongoing, claiming that the units’ capabilities and readiness have surpassed pre-war levels.

Jahanshahi acknowledged that several camps were hit by attacks that destroyed large areas of their buildings, but said that the dispersal of forces and fortifications helped limit losses, without providing a specific casualty figure.
