Iran’s foreign ministry said on Sunday that Tehran has never left the negotiating table and continues to exchange messages with mediators.

The ministry attributed the stalled talks to what it described as Washington’s insistence on its “unilateral” demands.

Reuters cited a source familiar with the matter as saying that Qatari mediators are in Tehran today seeking to ease regional tensions, with the mediation efforts coordinated with Washington.

Separately, a senior intelligence official in the administration of former US President Donald Trump warned in a memo seen by Reuters that Iran is intensifying efforts to target American individuals, noting that Tehran’s plots to harm US citizens have reached “advanced stages.”

The warning from US Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton came after Washington reduced staff at its mission in Saudi Arabia in recent days, following an escalation in attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group.
