Trump and Netanyahu reaffirm commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons

The White House announced that the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu concluded with "positive and productive" results after about ninety minutes of talks, with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that Netanyahu left the White House following the meeting, noting that the discussions were positive and fruitful.

Netanyahu described the meeting as "excellent," emphasizing that it reflected a full partnership and mutual support between the two sides. He highlighted agreement with the US president on the shared goal of stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

An Israeli official added that Trump and Netanyahu reiterated their commitment to keeping Iran non-nuclear. Israel's Channel 12 quoted a senior Israeli official as saying that Netanyahu told the US president there is no alternative to carrying out further strikes on rehabilitated Iranian nuclear facilities.

Coinciding with the meeting, Trump reiterated his stance on Iran in an interview with Fox News, stating that the United States is now in a "very strong position" and that he is prepared to order new strikes on Iran if diplomatic efforts fail to reach an agreement.

The US president said dealing with Iran requires a delicate balance, given the potential impact on around 91 million people, but stressed that Tehran is aware of his readiness to take military action if negotiations collapse.

Trump also renewed his threat to target Iran's Jabal al-Fas, asserting that he would "destroy it very easily" if no agreement is reached.

Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi declared that Iran does not recognize the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz, insisting the strait will remain closed unless Oman agrees to Iran's proposal.
