Gunmen hijack passenger bus in Yemen’s Amsarah region

Armed men hijacked a passenger bus carrying travelers from Taiz in the Amsarah area after intercepting it and opening fire.

The assailants terrorized the passengers, forcing them off the bus before seizing the vehicle. The driver has called on security authorities to swiftly apprehend the suspects and recover the bus, according to Al-Hadath.

The incident comes a day after a resident of Hadramout was targeted on the international highway in the Ahwar area. Local authorities in Abyan have affirmed their pursuit of those involved in recent attacks and stressed the need to secure the highway and protect travelers.

Yemen continues to experience security tensions in several regions, particularly those under Houthi control. Three members of the Al-Jaid–Dham tribe were killed and two others injured at the Al-Muhair checkpoint in Khub wa Ash Sha’af district after being shot by armed Houthi militants, sparking limited clashes between the tribe and Houthi checkpoints.

The Houthi checkpoint had stopped members of the Al-Jaid tribe for inspection as they returned to their villages, escalating into a confrontation that left Hamad Hadi Bakhran, Hamad Misfer Shanan, and Mubarak Abdullah Shanan dead, and Mohsen Saleh Zahban and Abdrabuh Mansour wounded. Reports indicate ongoing tensions between the tribes and Houthi forces.
