Russian official says US Republican loss will not affect Moscow's interests

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said a Republican Party loss in the US elections would not affect Russia's interests.

The Kremlin has also reiterated its hope that US President Donald Trump will continue his peace efforts following the results of the congressional midterm elections.

Commenting on the US election outcome, in which Democrats gained ground over Trump's Republican Party, the Kremlin added: "We hope the results will not discourage President Donald Trump from pursuing peace efforts in Ukraine."
