Iraqi lawmaker sentenced to 7 years for illicit gains, fined over 61 billion dinars

In an official statement, the commission said the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued the verdict based on Article 19/2 of the amended Integrity and Illicit Gains Law No. 30 of 2011.
The court ordered Jassim to return illicit gains amounting to 14,239,590,000 Iraqi dinars, as well as $12,442,500, in addition to a financial penalty equal to the total value of the illicit gains, in accordance with Article 19/4 of the same law.
The statement added that the court also handed Jassim a second sentence of three years’ rigorous imprisonment for concealing information on her financial disclosure form, under Article 19/5, and decided to apply the harsher penalty.
The court upheld the seizure of Jassim’s movable and immovable assets and granted the Federal Integrity Commission the right to seek compensation for damages once the verdict becomes final.
