Trump praises arrest of suspects plotting attack near UK’s Fairford base

US President Donald Trump praised the arrest of five individuals in connection with threats near the UK’s RAF Fairford base, describing it as a great step.

Trump said authorities had monitored the suspects for a long time, noting they were planning to cause serious harm to the base.

British counterterrorism police announced on Sunday that they had launched an investigation into a security incident near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, following the arrest of five people suspected of offenses under explosives laws, before they were later detained again on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism.

Police said they received a report at 12:45 a.m. on Sunday (September 27) about three suspicious vehicles appearing to head toward the base, prompting armed patrols to stop the suspects in the nearby Welford area.

Police confirmed the investigation is still in its early stages, according to the British newspaper Financial Times.

Authorities set up a 400-meter security cordon around the vehicles, which were examined by specialized army teams.

Around 85 homes were evacuated as a precaution to a nearby leisure center. Gloucestershire Police declared a “major incident,” confirming the situation is now under control.
