Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said on Friday that "we should derive lessons from the coronavirus pandemic". He also added that "the world of tomorrow will no longer be the same."
During a televised speech on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr; the Emir stressed the need for media to play a positive role in supporting joint efforts for eradicating the pandemic.
He expressed "deep regret for false reports broadcast by the media and circulated on social media."
The Emir said the pandemic will have repercussions locally and internationally on various aspects of life namely; health, the economy and social sectors.
"The Government and the National Assembly and all active civil associations should take a new approach to face this serious challenge for the sake of redrawing the future of Kuwait," he said.
On Friday, Kuwait reported 955 new cases of COVID-19, raising the tally of infections to 19,564.
It also said that nine more people had died, increasing the death toll to 138.
The Health Ministry spokesman, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, said the new infections include 139 Kuwaiti citizens, while the rest are foreigners.
He also said Friday that 310 coronavirus patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall tally to 5,515.
In Bahrain, the Health Ministry said 164 more infections were recorded in the country over the past 24 hours. The death toll stands at 12, with a total of 8,338 cases.
In Oman, health officials confirmed two fatalities from the virus, taking the death toll to 34.
They said a total of 424 patients tested positive for the virus, bringing the figure to 6,794, while 1,821 have recovered.
For its part, Qatar announced 1,830 confirmed new cases of COVID-19 and 605 new recovered cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 7,893.
The Health Ministry announced two new deaths from the virus.
