Women’s rights are a national priority, says Human Rights Commission's boss

President of HumanRights Commission Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad has confirmed that under theleadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin AbdulazizAl Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, the Kingdomof Saudi Arabia placed enabling women and protecting them as a top priority andfollowed serious steps to achieve that, adding that Saudi Arabia has recorded anumber of achievements in implementing women's rights in differentinstitutions.

On the occasion ofInternational Women's Day 2020 which is celebrated annually on 8th March, Dr.Al-Awwad said that women took great part in reforms related to human rightswhich the Saudi Vision 2030 adopted and stated that " Saudi women are animportant component of our strength. With over 50 percent of our universitygraduates being female, we will continue to develop their talents, invest intheir productive capabilities and enable them to strengthen their future andcontribute to the development of our society and economy."

Dr. Al-Awwad stressedthat Saudi achievements in women's rights attracted global attention. WorldBank's Women, Business and the Law 2020 report confirmed that the Kingdom ranksas the top reformer and top improver among 190 economies that it covers. Italso placed Saudi Arabia first among GCC countries and second in the Arabworld. Women's Committee announcement of Riyadh as the capital of Arab Womenfor the year 2020 under the slogan "Woman is Homeland and Ambition"is another achievement that represents the fruit of Saudi efforts to enablewomen in different sectors.

Dr. Al-Awwad alsostated that under the wise leadership, Saudi Arabia issued 60 human rightsdecisions, and 22 of which focused on women's rights. This shows that SaudiArabia is entering a new generation where women are partners contributingremarkably to society.
