Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa announced Tuesday that the UEFA Champions League finals in the capital of Lisbon from
Wednesday on wards will be a safe staging, dpa reported.

Lisbon was awarded the mini-tournament from the quarter-finals onwards by the ruling body UEFA owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

Costa told international news agencies on Tuesday that hosting the event was "a big honor" for his country and pledged that the measures imposed would guarantee the safety and health of players, officials and the local population.

All games are played behind closed doors, and all delegations are tested frequently for Covid-19 en route to the August 23 final in the Estadio da Luz.
