Manchester United offers fans pieces of Old Trafford turf for sale

Manchester United has launched a unique initiative allowing fans to purchase preserved pieces of turf from Old Trafford, priced at £125 ($165.49) each.

Old Trafford, known as the "Theatre of Dreams," has been the club's main stadium since 1910 and has witnessed some of Manchester United's most iconic moments, including their record 13 Premier League titles.

The club announced in a statement on its official website on Wednesday that the initiative follows a complete excavation and removal of the pitch down to its foundations last June—the first such overhaul in 14 years—to replant the turf and improve player comfort and drainage.

A special keepsake for fans

The statement added that sections of the turf have been carefully preserved and placed in glass cubes as special keepsakes for supporters, confirming that the pitch currently has no holes or damage.

The club noted that the meticulous project was overseen by award-winning groundskeeper Tony Sinclair, supported by a team of specialists.

Sporting and financial challenges

This initiative comes at a challenging time for Manchester United both on and off the pitch. After finishing third in the Premier League last season, the team has had a difficult start to the current campaign, sitting twelfth after five rounds with one win and two draws.

In the same context, the club announced on Wednesday that it has recorded an annual loss for the seventh consecutive year, due to high costs related to player signings and the dismissal of former coach Rúben Amorim this year.
